The BSU Debate Society, also known as DebSoc, is a community for University of Brighton students to share ideas and opinions on a variety of topics in a safe and inclusive space. Regardless of whether you have any experience with debating, DebSoc could be just the right place for you! We cover all sorts of topics, from politics and current events, through absurd and hilarious paradoxes, to some of the most philosophically and existentially ambiguous concepts out there!
Still not sure? Well, consider this:
Have you been missing the debates you did in school? Or have you always wanted to try out public speaking? Are you looking to find your voice? Do you want to learn how to present ideas in a clear and coherent way?
Well, DebSoc is the right place for all of that! We pride ourselves on helping people learn from each other, not only about the topics we debate, but also about how to develop as speakers and feel more confident in expressing their thoughts out loud, without fear of judgement, but with a desire to spark a critical discussion and learn!
...we need to have some fun every once in a while too! So every week, usually after our session, we embark on a nice and fun social organised by our very own VP Social Edith! What would that social be, you may wonder? Well, it depends: sometimes it takes us on a chill night out in town, sometimes it's something more exciting, like laser tag, bowling, or ice skating! The only way to find out would be to join DebSoc and experience the joy of quality time with some great minds!
We are also hoping to do even more exciting things, such as Model United Nations (MUN) workshops and conferences (if there is enough interest), and other cool trips in and around Brighton. What better way to forge new friendships which could last a lifetime?
WEEKLY DEBATES, EVERY WEDNESDAY, 6PM IN ELM HOUSE 302!
Join us now! You won't regret it!
