Disclosure and reporting

Can you help me to report or disclose my situation to the University?

Yes, we can. We will take you through your options so that you can make an informed decision.

If the person(s) that are abusing you are a University of Brighton student or member of staff we can advise you of how to formally report this to the University.

We can also help you make a disclosure to the Disclosure Response Team. Using the disclosure team prompts the Disclosure Response Team to provide you with further support. Contacting the Disclosure Response Team does not start a formal report or complaint to the university authorities. They will take you through your options so that you can make an informed decision.

What if i don’t want to make a report, or disclose my situation to the university right now?

That’s okay. You can talk to us about your situation and let us know you do not want us to take any further action.

We can also signpost you to support services if you would like to access them.

We will document what you have told us and provide a copy of this to you for your records. However, in some cases where we are seriously concerned that you (or another University of Brighton student) are in serious and imminent danger of harm we may need to breach your confidentiality.

We will always try to obtain your consent, but ultimately this may mean reporting our concerns to the University, or, in an emergency, to the emergency services.
