BSU 2026
ELECTIONS

What are the bsu LEADERSHIP elections?

Brighton Students’ Union runs annual Leadership Elections, in which students vote for both the four elected Union officers: President, Activities Officer, Communities Officer, and Education Officer, alongside society leaders for the next academic year. Your voice in choosing representatives for your views during your university study is crucial. Elections are a cornerstone of our democratic process. By taking part as a voter or a candidate, students help shape how the Students’ Union and its communities are led throughout their time at university.

Voting opens on the 10th of March at 10 am, and you have till pm on the 12th of March to cast your vote. Make sure you don’t miss your chance to decide who drives your student issues forward and brings the change you want to see. Have a look at the candidates running and read about their causes and how they want to make your student life

Single Transferable Voting (STV)

What is STV Voting?

Single Transferable Vote (STV) is a voting system where voters rank candidates in order of preference (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). 🗳️

Candidates must reach a vote quota of at least 51% to win the election. If no one reaches the quota in the first round, the lowest candidate is eliminated and their votes transfer to voters second preferences.

This process continues until all seats are filled, helping results reflect voters’ preferences more proportionally.
