Do you want to be part of the BSU Officer Team or lead your society... why not nominate yourself?

The 2025 Leadership Elections are currently in the works and if this is your first year with us, this may be a new concept for you. These elections are held to elect your new 2025/26 Officer Team and Society Committee members for the next academic year!

Here are some important dates to keep in mind:

• Monday 3rd Feb - Nominations open:
  • You will be able to nominate yourself for either an Officer Position or Society Committee Member.
  • For the Officer Positions, there will be a nomination form to fill out.
  • For society committee members, you can nominate yourself on the website.
  • You will have to be a member of the society to be able to nominate yourself or to vote.
• Friday 14th of Feb - Nominations Close
• Friday 14th of Feb - Officer Candidates' Briefing:
  • All candidates for the Officer Elections must attend this meeting in order to proceed with the elections. It will be an in-person meeting on Friday afternoon. More details on where and when will be released soon. Please get in touch as soon as possible if you have nominated yourself and are not able to attend this meeting.
• Tuesday 25th Feb - Thursday 27th Feb - Voting period:
  • Voting will open for both elections and you can vote online on the BSU website or find a BSU Ballot station on campus.

If your society was created in the 23/24 academic year, elections to pick committee members are mandatory, if your society was created this academic year, you do not have to go through the elections unless the committee are graduating or leaving. To vote in the society elections you must be a member of the society before nominations close. You can get in touch with BSUsocieties@brighton.ac.uk if you have any questions.

Committee member role descriptions

President:

Runs the society and is the main point of contact with the Societies Team. Presidents ensure members 'purchase' their membership, will manage the committee and must include all committee members' input on decisions.

VP Finance:

Manage and maintain the society budget using the BSU society bank account (no other bank account can be used), ensuring the society has enough funds before making purchases, authorise reimbursement requests/ invoices over £250, request invoices from the BSU to be sent to external companies, find external sponsorship's/ fundraise for the society.

What did the 2024 Elections look like?

Last year, we had 2157 students cast 8601 votes across all of the elections, resulting in your current 2024/25 Officer Team and Society Committee members. This was the highest election turnout since 2017/18 so let's see if we can beat that this year!
