Assessment season is here... it's crunch time đź“š

Study tips

1. Decide on a dedicated workspace

Having a dedicated workspace allows your mind to keep focused on the tasks you are doing. Try to keep it tidy and make sure it has everything you need for your study session.

2. Set a goal

Whether this is the amount of time you'd like to study for or what you'd like to achieve for the session, outline a goal of what you'd like to accomplish. This will give you a sense of direction and motivation for your session, allowing you to structure the time accordingly.

3. Break down large concepts into smaller segments

Approaching a new topic can seem daunting at first glance, though breaking it down into smaller, more manageable segments will help you tackle it, whilst enhancing your understanding.

4. Minimise distractions

Yep, that means no doom-scrolling on Instagram or TikTok... It's a struggle, though try putting your phone on Do Not Disturb to avoid notifications breaking your focus. Try letting your friends know when you are studying so they know not to distract you, or why not arrange a group trip to the library?

5. Most importantly, take care of yourself!

We know this is a stressful time and it's important that you are putting yourself first. Staying hydrated and fuelled up with healthy foods, whilst maintaining a balance between working and socialising are steps to help. As always, if you have any concerns, contact our Support Team for further guidance.

Additional Consideration

During this time, you may find yourself looking to make an application for Additional Consideration (what used to be called Mitigating Circumstances). On our YouTube, you can find a series of videos to inform you of the process if you need it, alongside other videos outlining Academic Integrity and Misconduct so you can be best prepared to submit your work. Here's an article on Additional Consideration with all the information you need.

Retaking assessments

Students often hear tutors tell them, 'you can re-take the assessment in the summer'. Unfortunately, that isn't always true due to the complicated nature of regulations. It is always best to ask your SSGT or School Office or contact our Support Team if you require any guidance. Top tip… always get the answer in writing so you can rely on the information later if there is a dispute over advice or information given!
